About Charnwood

The Borough of Charnwood lies at the heart of the East Midlands, with the major cities of Nottingham & Derby to the north, and Leicester to the south.

Loughborough is the main town and has become a major centre for advanced technology, being particularly strong in engineering, health care & pharmaceuticals and energy research & development, and underpinned by one of the country's leading universities. Its population of over 150,000 live in friendly towns & villages set in attractive countryside.

Its excellent communications links with all parts of the country by motorway (J23 of M1 with easy links to other motorways), rail (direct connections to London, Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield, and East Anglia) and air (East Midlands Airport with services to major European cities is only 20 minutes away) make it a superb location for business.

Despite being a hotbed of technological and business activity, Loughborough is still a pleasant bustling market town that does not suffer the acute congestion of neighbouring cities. Charnwood Forest, from which the Borough takes its name, lies to the west of the Borough and it borders the new National Forest. It boasts delightful scenery carved from some of the oldest rocks in England, laid down 700 million years ago when Charnwood was a literally a hotbed (of volcanic activity).

Many local bodies are now working in partnership with government and industry to make to make the prosperity and quality of life in Charnwood even better; Loughborough University and Loughborough College work very closely with local industries, and there are no less than six universities within a twenty mile radius; the pedestrianisation of Loughborough Town Centre is now complete; tourism opportunities offered by the National Forest, the Millennium Cycle route running along the Soar Valley, the canal and waterway network, the Great Central Railway and Charnwood Forest itself are being developed; scars left by the older industries are being removed and new skills and jobs created.

The quality of life, the excellent communications, the local technological skills and training, and the strong partnerships forged by its people make Charnwood an excellent place for business.
