Rikke Digerud-Waring leads the Anstey Community and Education Public Art Scheme, which been funded by, Charnwood Borough Council, David Wilson Homes, the Arts Council England and Latimer and Woolden Hill Primary schools, Anstey.The theme for the scheme is Identity and Unity and the artist and children have created abody of workto a high standard. The community groupshavebeenlookingat issues of theiridentities by creating artworkincorporatinghandprints, footprints and maps of their town.Friday, 8 June 2007, was thefinal day of the exhibition and saw visits by children from Latimer and Woolden Hill primary schools including Head teachers,Steve Williams and Colleen Shepherd. Members of Anstey WRVS and ladies from Anstey Lunch Club who meet in the Jubilee Hall every Friday were also in attendance to show their support.Following his visit to the exhibition, Cllr Lewis, Cabinet Lead for Leisure, said: “The exhibition was extremely creative it has been refreshing and inspiring to see so many members of the community interested and involved with this public art scheme. I believe this is a good example of partnership working and a role model for further percent for art schemes in the Borough. The scheme will go on to culminatew ith a public sculpture for the new David Wilson development‘Park View’, Bradgate Road, Anstey. The artwork will be installed later this year.
Community Involved in Public Art Work for Anstey
Local artist Rikke Digerud-Waring has been working with primary school children and community groups since January 07 to create suggestions and a final design for the public artwork that has recently been unveiled in Anstey Parish Council's Jubilee Hall, Stadon Road.
