Local Authorities are under a statutory duty to secure production of a Community Strategy:
“…for promoting or improving the economic, social and environmental well being of their area, and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development in the UK”.
Community Strategies have the following objectives:
- Local communities to articulate aspirations, needs, priorities.
- Co-ordinate actions – Councils, public, private, voluntary, community.
- Focus activity to meet community needs and aspirations.
- Contribute to sustainable development.
The original Community Strategy for Charnwood was published in 2003 with the intention of an early review. That review was carried out by Charnwood Together during 2005 with a scope of;
- Concentrate on a much smaller range of key action areas where Charnwood Together can add value. Achieve a more focused, simplified action plan.
- Take account of the creation of “Local Area Agreements”.
